JOB TITLE: Cleaning & Sanitation Manager (Maine)
HOURS: Primarily night shift (11pm
8am). May require flexible hours during the Harvest.
REPORTS TO: Sr. FSQA Manager (Maine)
LOCATION: Cherryfield / Hancock / Deblois Facilities
SALARY: Starting at $28 / hour, commensurate with education, skill, experience. OT at time and a half, shift differential
General Position Summary
The Cleaning and Sanitation Manager is responsible for leading the implementation of Wyman?s Sanitation Program throughout three Maine manufacturing plants. This position oversees facility hygiene, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations (FDA, USDA, GMP, HACCP) by developing, implementing, and validating Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs). Key duties include leading and scheduling sanitation crews, managing chemical inventory, developing procedures, and training staff.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).

Successful, on-time completion of MSS tasks
- Review, revise, and develop SSOPs to ensure all machinery, equipment, and facility areas meet sanitation requirements
- Ensure compliance with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Enforce safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE usage
- Establish a sustainable sanitation team. Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor sanitation personnel
- Perform regular inspections and sanitation audits to verify cleaning effectiveness and address deficiencies
- Oversee the procurement and inventory levels of cleaning chemicals, interacting with suppliers for technical support
- Identify, test, and implement new cleaning technologies or methods to improve efficiency and reduce environmental risks
- Reduce re-clean events and improve ATP scores through targeted cleaning, root cause analysis, and corrective actions

- Process owner of Sanitation SQF elements
- Implement weekly targeted deep cleaning to improve baseline sanitation
- Collaborate with Canadian Sanitation Team and Supplier Quality Team to share best practices
- Report cleaning and sanitation metrics to Plant Management Team
Job Dimensions (Interest, Knowledge & Abilities)
- Knowledge of FDA/USDA regulations
- Ability to lead teams and work collaboratively with production and quality department
- Maintenance/plumbing aptitude (basic repairs)
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor?s degree in microbiology or food science (preferred)
- 3-5+ years in a food or manufacturing sanitation environment
- Supervisor/people leadership experience
- Strong understanding of microbiology, sanitation chemistry, and Cleaning Out of Place (COP) systems
Certificates / Licenses
- HACCP Certification
- PCQI Certification is a plus
- SQF Practitioner Certification is a plus
- Food Defense Certification
- Lean Six Sigma is a plus
